The Muslim Writers Collective is a grassroots initiative dedicated to promoting storytelling in the Muslim American community. We've been featured in Vice, The Guardian, Buzzfeed, The Daily Beast, and more.
Our signature event, a monthly open mic, has been running since January 2014, drawing thousands of attendees and hundreds of first time performers - poets, journalists, comedians, musicians. We've launched in nearly a dozen cities across America and Canada - in February 2016 we planned events in eight cities, and crossed the 20,000 follower mark on Facebook. We run workshops and partner with local organizations and publications to support our community.
Founded in January 2014 in New York City by Hamdan Azhar and Ayisha Irfan.
